Featuring Cathy Bonin, Director of Social Services

Cathy Bonin has been employed as the Director of Social Services for Essex Meadows since December of 1998. Cathy does an excellent job in her role and her expertise was especially needed during the extended COVID Pandemic. Cathy has an innate kindness which has been a comfort to residents and families during this difficult year. She offers practical solutions to resident and family concerns. Cathy’s responsibilities include facilitating the monthly Resident Council meetings in the Health Center, care planning meetings with families, discharge planning and follows up with discharged residents after they have been home for a little bit.

She also is a support to the Independent Living residents and has done a weekly lunch group for several years. During the pandemic, Cathy needed to switch the in-person lunch date to weekly phone calls. These residents very much appreciated her attentiveness and concern when they were feeling isolated.

As stated by Janet Hartson, Care Coordinator in the Health Center, “Cathy is great at gaining trust and establishing close relationships with residents and family. She is able to guide families through some very difficult junctures in the care of their loved ones. It is self-evident their respect and gratitude for her help. We all love Cathy!”

Recently Cathy decreased her hours a bit to help with the care of her first grandchild. However, she is still fully committed to Essex Meadows and makes herself available as needed.
