Arts & Exploration: Creating Your Personal Blue Zone – 4:00 p.m.

Sunday, April 21st at 4:00 p.m.

First, we went green as a Gold LEED-certified retirement community, and now we’re going blue! Essex Meadows has a long history of inspiring well-being and as part of our vision, we’re inviting you to learn about the benefits of a Blue Zones lifestyle at one of two life-changing sessions.

Dan Buettner, Blue Zones founder, is a National Geographic Fellow and multiple New York Times bestselling author. He has discovered five places in the world dubbed blue zones. Blue zones are places where entire communities live significantly longer, healthier, and more active lives. The Netflix four-part series Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones has already inspired thousands to learn more about the nine commonalities across the blue zones that have led to longevity and vitality. Buettner’s protegé Margaret Brown will lead two afternoon workshops designed to motivate you to live the blue lifestyle.

We are thrilled to invite you to learn the Blue Zones approach to health and well-being. We are so committed to inspiring you, that all workshop participants will receive a copy of The Blue Zones Challenge. This four-week guide and year-long sustainability program will jump-start your journey to better health, happiness, less stress and a longer life. You’ll start with the rules of the Blue Zones Challenge, including tips and tricks from the five blue zones, then follow week-by-week prompts to change your diet, increase your activity, update your living spaces and build your social life.

Margaret Brown is a lifelong community well-being advocate. Before joining Blue Zones, Margaret spent more than 10 years working directly with community coalitions, federally qualified health centers, public health, and health systems to develop and implement community-based health improvement strategies. She has worked with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Dartmouth College, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Margaret is passionate about empowering communities and individuals to take ownership of their health and creating cross-sector partnerships that make that possible. Margaret holds a Master of Science in healthcare leadership from Dartmouth College and a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Francis Marion University.
